New Year

I have not been doing much running lately.  I've been able to maintain a 10 mile long run each week but the others are infrequent.   It seems this time of year it gets too cold for me to go outside (our highs have been around 20F (-6C) so most of the day is below that and a little breeze makes it even worse) .  And since I am also dealing with my ITB and hamstring, there isn't much incentive (I've been going to physical therapy).  BUT, today is the start of a new year so I had to do SOMETHING so I did actually get on the dreadmill.  Unfortunately, after .8 miles it was too depressing to continue so I just walked.

And I bought a new scale.

This morning I was 165.5 pounds (75 kg).  Yup, 10 again.  Is this blog aptly named or what?  So . . . here's the plan:

Increase activity - get back to running as ITB & hamstring will allow, supplement with getting my steps in on rest days.

Resume counting and logging calories at 1400 per day.

Start some strength training.

OK, here I go again!

  1. I understand the whole exercise when it's cold. The visits to the chiropractor have greatly helped with the knee pain by aligning everything (with a plan of strengthening and conditioning exercises, as his specialty is sports injuries) so I'm walking better which means less knee pain.

Week three on the acupuncture. I actually only ate half the amount of potatoes and bread tonight and was fine, though I did have two glasses of champagne as tonight was our new years as I had a LONG work day yesterday.

Glad you are back on track.

  6. New year, new attempts...seems familiar since I am going to give it another go myself. We may all faulted, but so long as there's no giving up I think we'll be good. What's that phrase I keep seeing around online and everywhere? The struggle is real? Sounds about right!

Good luck to you in this new year!

  9. Behaviour change is soooooo hard. I get paid a lot of money to help others change behaviour, but often fail to change my own. Look at making one small change at a time. Once that is habit, add something else. Also, find something to act as your reward for your changes. It is hard because our favourite rewards are often full of calories, but there must be something you could do for yourself after a successful week.

  10. Good luck, I went from 77 kg to around 60 kg (not brave enough to get on the scales after Christmas/New Years. Eat less and do more seems to be the only way to loose weight. I did find cutting out bread, salt and wine helped. Thankfully I don't have a sweet tooth and don't eat chocolate and fizzy drinks.

    1. Congrats to you! With all the work the dentist has done in my mouth you'd think he could have done something about that sweet tooth!
