Apparently, we are of the age that if we were to contract COVID19, it would likely be a serious situation. How odd that I am actually posting again! We made it to Cortez, after about an 8-hour drive. I guess we beat the holiday weekend traffic - whew! But it was pretty tiring, all that sitting, so we didn't do much after getting set up except for checking out the surrounding area.
This morning we took off for Mesa Verde National Park. As I said, we've been here before but Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10288455369911071072noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878520283466490060.post-69106173666078979892019-08-28T19:01:00.001-06:002019-08-28T19:01:04.812-06:00It's Been A While For some reason, the past few days I've felt a calling to post on this blog. It isn't like there's anything exciting happening in my world. Well, we are getting ready to head out in the wheelie house in the morning so I suppose that is sort of exciting.
We're going to Mesa Verde National Park. We haven't been there in many years so I look forward to seeing the amazing Anasazi Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10288455369911071072noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878520283466490060.post-6154361684574146282019-05-08T08:21:00.002-06:002019-05-08T08:21:54.380-06:00Bryce Canyon BAR 2019
The first BAR (Blogville Awesome Retreat) happened in Indiana. The following year we met at a mini-BAR in Oregon. The next year it was just 2 of us in Northern California. This year it was 4 couples in Utah at Bryce Canyon. I share the following photos with you...

Today we went for a bike ride on Antelope Island.
The island is the largest one in the Great Salt Lake.
There's a 7 mile causeway to get to the island.
During warm weather, there are zillions of brine flies on the island. This time of year they haven't hatched out yet.
Unfortunately, the causeway is full of all kinds of flying bugs. Last week we went to Bryce Canyon National Park for a long weekend. It is one of my most favorite places and we go nearly every year. We typically do a lot of hiking but this time we took our bikes.

After having to postpone several times because of weather (high winds) we finally were able to head to Bear Lake for our bike ride around the lake. It's just over 50 miles, across the Utah/Idaho border. It would be our farthest ride ever! Our friend Mary was with us. She often accompanies us on the longer rides. Yup, still doing the bike thing. Now that the 1,000 mile goal is completed, we're working on a 50 mile ride - a Half Century. The plan was for Saturday, then moved to Sunday due to weather (high winds). Now, the plan is for Wednesday. Wish us luck!

I don't know why I enjoy taking photos of my bike but for some reason I do. We'll be riding along and I'll see something that captures my interest and I holler to hubby to "pull over". I'm from northern Indiana and we have quite a few Amish in the area so anything Amish usually intrigues me.

My enjoyment of Millie continues as I progress closer and closer to my 1,000 miles by end of summer goal.
Today we braved the smoky air and went for a ride with our friend Mary.
We went 40.25 miles by the time we were finished. During the ride we ran into another friend of ours who was running. First there was Lila. She is a Specialized Sirrus Sport. From the moment I first rode her I was in love! It was my first time to ever have a really GOOD bike, one with good components and professionally fit for me. It made all the difference and it wasn't too long before I had 500 miles on her.
I loved her so much that I decided to push it a bit further and upgrade to Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10288455369911071072noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878520283466490060.post-65617263429470799432018-06-21T09:21:00.001-06:002018-06-21T09:21:32.568-06:00Riding the Redwoods
I have to admit that it is even surprising me how much I am enjoying biking. (And for the record, it is NOT a replacement for running.) Having a better quality bike really is making a huge difference. As most of you know, we just got back from our NORCAL (Northern California) vacation. One of the things we did was ride along the "Avenue of the Giants".

I gotta say I am really enjoying my new bike. It is a Specialized Sirrus Sport (Hybrid) and it is absolutely the perfect bike for me! Bob got the same thing and he loves his too.
We went on a bike ride today. We rode just over 17 miles and I am happy to report I am finally adjusting to my saddle!
Sometimes I just gotta stop to take a photo.

Dogs are only allowed on paved surfaces in the National Parks. Luckily there are many of them. There is a 13-mile paved trail along the rum.
We were at Trailer Village, a full hookup park inside the park.

We had a small herd of elk that hung around Trailer Village.

This recipe is one I've used over the past few years. It's a smooth, creamy tasting butternut squash soup. First I get my ingredients together.
Cutting up butternut squashes 2 days in a row has really taxed my muscles! Anyway, I forgot to take a picture of the squash so if you need to see it look at yesterdays lol! OK, shockingly, I followed through on my threat to make this recipe. It is from an ebook I recently purchased (for the ridiculously low price of $1.99) titled "The Ultimate Vegetarian Slow Cooker Cookbook: 200 Flavorful and Filling Meatless Recipes That Prep Fast and Cook Slow." See it here.

We got home from our trip to Bryce Canyon and the wheelie house is officially winterized for the winter season. It got really cold while we were there, 10F one morning with the low 50's in the daytime. The wind blew most of the time but we were prepared for the conditions so it wasn't bad. At night we had to disconnect the water from the wheelie house or else it would have Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10288455369911071072noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878520283466490060.post-43303077430857531672017-09-23T09:56:00.002-06:002017-09-23T09:56:26.467-06:00Talkin' Trash
The soil at our house is really bad. So when Hubby built my garden box last spring, we filled it with compost and topsoil. I took the extra compost and put it in my front yard gardens where I grow my sunflowers. After seeing how the compost really fed the plants and made them grow like crazy, I decided I would like to continue to improve the soil. Oh, and there's Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10288455369911071072noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7878520283466490060.post-10379644677375193932017-09-07T11:21:00.003-06:002017-09-07T11:21:39.634-06:00Smoke
We got home from vacation last night. So now I am doing all the catch-up stuff related to being gone a couple weeks. I picked a huge bag of tomatoes last night and gave them to a neighbor.
